LAPPS' Second Meeting
On Thursday, September 13, at 2:00 p.m., LAPPS held its second organizational meeting. Members attending were: Leslie Ray, Angel Pet Sitters; Allie Elliott, A&E Pet Sitting, and Mary McKay, Mary's Pet Sitting.
Items On The Agenda Included:
- Introduction of Mary McKay, of Mary's Pet Sitting in Harrison, AR. Mary brought goodie bags!
- Confirmed that LAPPS meetings will be held the 2nd Thursday of each month, at 2pm, at the McDonald's in Lowell.
- Encouraged everyone to participate more in our LAPPS Yahoo Group. It's a great way to share experiences and get to know each other better.
- Our ice breaker activity was fun, but would have been more entertaining if we'd had more members in attendance. We each had to write something interesting about ourselves. (Allie wrote that she likes fly fishing, Mary wrote that she is shy, and Leslie wrote that she had a monkey, coatimundi, and a toucan as a child.)
- Everyone in attendance got a LAPPS membership card!
- We discussed that we still want a community project to work on. Leslie brought pictures of sample spay/neuter specialty license plates from other states, and discussed the results of her research into the possibility of Arkansas having spay/neuter specialty plates. She has been in touch with a woman in Little Rock who is working on this very project, and is eager to find others to help her with it. We will wait to hear more.
- We'd like to find one or two members to work on compiling a pet event calendar for the area. We all know that there are several pet-related events throughout the year, but the dates often change, and new events come up every year. If we had a calendar, we could all be aware of the events that are coming up and make a point to attend. We thought it would be nice if at least once or twice a year we could attend events to promote LAPPS, rather than our own businesses. This way, we could help the public to learn more about the pet sitting profession.
League of Arkansas Professional Pet Sitters Holds First Meeting
On Wednesday, August 22, at 10:00 a.m., LAPPS held its first organizational meeting.
Members attending were: Leslie Ray, Angel Pet Sitters; Mary Wilcox, Good Steward Pet Sitting Services;
Dee Collins, Pet's Paradise; and Allie Elliott, A&E Pet Sitting. A fifth member, Mary McKay,
Mary's Pet Sitting, was unable to attend.
Items On The Agenda Included:
- Should LAPPS have a regular day/time for meetings, and when? It was decided that meetings would be held one Thursday each month,
at 2:00 p.m. We have yet to determine which Thursday of the month.
- Members reviewed the code of ethics and will decide whether to edit the code or leave as is.
- Members would like to come up with a project or event that will bring attention to LAPPS while benefitting the state and/or local communities.
- Members will take turns planning a fun "ice-breaker" activity for each meeting. It can be something silly or constructive. The idea is to help us get to know one another.
